Collins Big Cat Apps for interactive reading: iPads in the classroom
This App does not cease to impress…it keeps the enjoyment and excitement going, long after you have read the book!
There are 8 books in the series, and each story app will keep a little one engaged by the variety of different fun, interactive and easy-to-use activities.
Start off by listening to the story being read aloud. Children can easily follow the on-screen reading prompts to read along. Next, read the story on you own…if you get stuck, click on the word and it will be read aloud. As you read, the page comes alive by touching different objects on the page. Sound effects, animations and fantastic graphics all help to ensure a positive reading experience – even for the most reluctant of readers. After reading the story, there is an option to take a short quiz, allowing them to demonstrate their level of comprehension. Next, use the story creator function…and it is this function alone that makes these story apps a must-have!
Using Story Creator, children can use the settings from each story, along with the characters, to retell the story in their own words.
They can order the scenes and character, make them bigger or smaller, drag objects and characters anywhere on the page and choose their own text box style. They can even create a new version of the story.
Older children can write stories for younger children, giving their writing a real purpose!
This is the writing tool belt for assisting children’s life-long love of reading that we have been waiting for; one that sparks creativity in writing literature. A great addition to have on your iPads in the classoom.
